Village Farm Alpacas
Written by Terry Callery

Village Farm Alpacas is an 1840 hilltop farm that overlooks the historic shipbuilding village of Waldoboro, Maine. Since 1999 we have been raising alpacas and have seen our investment in our herd grow from four animals to 19. For us, it has been an exciting project that we have undertaken together. It has been a good experience for us as a couple to have adopted this richly rewarding lifestyle. Our alpacas provided us with so many things -- a way to build equity and income --a daily rhythm on the farm that centers us --and of course soft and luxurious fiber that Bonnie both spins and weaves. We share the passion for this industry that has made it so very successful and have been involved in the Maine Alpaca Association ( Education Committee & Neonatal Seminar) and in the Alpaca Open Farm Days (Publicity). Bonnie is originally from Bangor, Maine and has had a career as a medical buyer--she is very knowledgeable about fiber and fiber arts. Terry has worked in sales and marketing -- he is writing a novel and contributes articles about alpaca farming to periodicals. Terry is also active with the New England Alpaca Association where he serves and the Chair of the Marketing Committee. Village Farm is beginning to build a reputation for it's 5 and 6 alpaca starter packages and a breeding program that includes a Champion white and a Reserve Champion rose gray herdsires.
