Oak Hill Alpaca Ranch by Donna Ferrera Oak Hill Alpaca Ranch began as Oakhill Farm in Middleton, Massachusetts in 1999. A few ducks and chickens acquired in 1994, soon led to the purchase of Olde English Miniature Baby Doll sheep, some of the rarest sheep in the world. In 1998 we attended the New England Alpaca Show and fell in love with alpacas. We read books about alpacas, attended seminars and visited alpaca farms at every opportunity. We realized that our small farm in Middleton was not large enough to support the Baby Doll sheep and alpacas, so we sold our sheep to some caring hands and started to focus on alpacas. In February 2001 we purchased 80 acres of land in Shapleigh, Maine and began building our new home and barn. We purchased a D7 Caterpillar bulldozer which quickly became our best friend as we cleared for the house, barn, roads and our pasture. By June 2002 we finally moved into Oak Hill Alpaca Ranch in Shapleigh, Maine!
Today we have a happy, healthy growing herd of alpacas. We have two livestock
protection dogs, named Burak and Poppy. Our son Rob and family dog Rex. We are
blessed to see Oak Hill Alpaca Ranch grow into a true family affair with Bob and Joyce
Ferrera and Bruce and Carol Skinner helping us on the Ranch with a wide range of jobs
that include bookkeeping, alpaca care, and grounds maintenance. We are a full service farm, offering sales, breeding, boarding, design, and health guidelines. Our herd consists of Huacayas in a wide variety of colors with varied genetics, including Alpacas de Patagonia’s Nishio, 6 Peruvian Accoyo Powerball, Royal Fawn, Peruvian Altiplano Gold, El Padre, and Hemingway to name a few. We offer ARI registered Huacaya alpacas. At Oak Hill Ranch our goal is to provide the best animals at fair prices. We are extremely committed to the success of our clients. We breed for elite fiber, density, consistency and coverage of fiber on strong, conformational correct frames. We have been extremely successful running "The Alpaca Shoppe" one of the largest alpaca products gift shops in New England. We carry a wide range of products and carefully select our designers. Much of the yarn is from our own alpacas. Blueberry picking, hayrides, and various events throughout the year make this fun for the entire family. We look forward to introducing you to our beautiful and friendly alpacas! Our Alpaca Ranch has been a welcome relief from the crazy world we live in. It has given us a wonderful lifestyle and many happy moments! |
